# About Neighborhood Tide

Bold, printable notices for the things that happen on your street.

## What it is

Neighborhood Tide has five free tools: a [flyer maker](https://neighborhoodtide.sbs/), a [yard sale sign maker](https://neighborhoodtide.sbs/yard-sale-sign-maker/), a [lost pet poster maker](https://neighborhoodtide.sbs/lost-pet-poster-maker/), a [tear-off tab flyer maker](https://neighborhoodtide.sbs/tear-off-tab-flyer/) and a [block party checklist](https://neighborhoodtide.sbs/block-party-checklist/). They are made for the small jobs of neighbourhood life: telling people about a clean-up, pointing drivers to a garage sale, finding a runaway cat.

## How it works

Every poster is laid out and drawn by your browser. The live preview is the same drawing that prints, so what you see is what comes out of the printer, on US Letter, A4 or tabloid paper. Photos are opened straight from your device and never uploaded. Your words and settings are remembered in your browser's local storage so they are there when you come back, and you can clear them at any time.

## The look

The posters borrow from letterpress show cards: tall condensed capitals set in Bebas Neue, two inks, heavy rules and printer's stars. The text is Encode Sans. Both fonts are open-source and served from this site.

## Sources

The yard sale sign's reading-distance estimate uses the letter-height guidance in the US Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices, and the lost pet page cites a published survey of lost dogs and cats. Both are linked on those pages.
